Big Mama’s kitchen is magic, no question — but when Albert and Bethany move in to keep the spirit of Big Mama alive, they have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into. This delightful Mississippi Farce introduces us to the wonder of Big Mama’s cooking, hungry locals who aren’t ready to let go, and the grandson who must find a way to keep the magic alive without letting it all fall apart in the process.

Director Connor Bingham says, “This play is such an accurate depiction of, not only my Southern culture, but also my specific culture as a Mississippian. Many moments remind me of my upbringing and heritage from the bonding through food, to the southern hospitality that sometimes isn’t real hospitality at all. Above all, this story is grounded in a universal truth that the love of family, whether it’s through blood or through circumstance, is a strong bond that can cause people to give all they have to help those in their family, or to honor their family’s legacy. This story is witty, knee-slap inducing and above all has a great heart. It’s been a joy to see it come to life.”

Managing Director and Co-founder of Hearth & Mantel Theatre, Laina Kenyon says, “The world inside Big Mama’s Kitchen is one so warm and welcoming that even if you aren’t from Mississippi, you’re going to feel right at home. And that’s what we aim to do with every Hearth & Mantel experience — invite you to come home.”
